Reliable bit of kit

20 January 2024

Been running a Red Reactor on my Pi4 Ubuntu server for nearly a year now, and despite numerous power cuts around here it never missed a beat. Have just ordered another one for a new project.

Wow! Doesn't drain batteries while off!

12 October 2023

Imagine the pleasure at returning to my Raspberry Pi beater machine (the one I use when tossing something together) after several months, and the batteries were non-zero! In fact, they tested over 75% (near where I left them) after sitting on the shelf for 4+ months.

Why surprising? My last UPS would drain full batteries frighteningly low after a couple weeks. After a month, you couldn’t just plug in and boot, because the near-0v batteries would cause an immediate reboot loop.

My Red Reactor is what I was looking for: A portable Raspberry power source that works whether plugged-in, unplugged, or shelved, as needed, and doesn’t destroy the batteries when idle.

I’m still playing with the “boot button” feature. My initial annoyance at having to add an external button quickly yielded to the realization of how useful that implementation is in actual use.

Highly recommended, contrary to my prior experience with another “UPS”.

Response from Red Reactor

Thank you so much, that’s great to hear!

Great addition to my Project.

Got the first one up and running yesterday. Really pleased with them, a great piece of kit and really well made. Perfect solution for my project.

Great for low power and easy to use!

11 June 2023

It’s great this unit consumes so little power, compared to others I tried that drain the batteries real quick when in standby. Perfect for my timed air monitoring application, and I used your battery monitor example to get it all up and running. Thanks for such a great product!

Fantastic bit of kit

5 April 2023

The redreactor works exactly as intended and quite easy to setup. The after service from Pascal was excellent too answering my queries with suitable screens. If you want reliable portable power this is what you need.

A brilliant Pi UPS solution

10 March 2023

If you need to use the UART (TxD on GPIO14) in your Pi application then you should NOT add the dtoverlay line to your /boot/config.txt as this will prevent serial data output. You’ll find the RR works perfectly well without the config modification, and so will your UART.

Best UPS for the PI ever!

Thanks so much for doing this. I just tried it out with my Pi Zero and it worked a treat!

I really like the MQTT client too with NodeRED – I have a bunch of smart-home applications I want to try with this and the PiZero + Red Reactor is a great combo for these applications.

Rock solid performance

Got them a few days ago. Connected to mine RPi4B 8GB Ubuntu Server 22.04LTS farm. No more voltage drop issues. i.e. Red LED blinks.

Supplying power through the pogo pins at the back is a clever idea that liberates IO pins and cooling fans can be mounted directly above the CPU.

Just received it, thanks!

Arrived safely, and looking forward to using it with my Pi 4.
